What is IASTM?
IASTM is a soft tissue treatment that uses specialized tools to gently assess and treat areas of muscle tightness and restriction. These instruments allow for a more precise approach to addressing dysfunctional tissue that may be contributing to pain or limited movement. Over time, muscles and connective tissues can develop adhesions or “tight spots” due to injury, overuse, or poor movement patterns. IASTM helps break up these restrictions and restore normal tissue mobility. At Abundant Life Chiropractic, IASTM is used as part of a personalized treatment plan to help improve function and reduce discomfort.
How IASTM Helps
When soft tissue is restricted, it can limit movement, create tension, and place stress on surrounding joints. IASTM works by improving tissue quality and promoting better movement. IASTM may help reduce muscle tightness and stiffness, improve range of motion and flexibility, break down scar tissue and adhesions, decrease discomfort associated with movement, and support recovery from injury or repetitive strain. It is commonly used for areas such as the neck, shoulders, back, arms, and legs.
What to Expect During Your Visit
A smooth, specialized tool is applied to the skin to gently glide over the affected area, allowing your provider to identify and treat areas of restriction. During treatment, you may feel a mild scraping or pressure sensation, and some areas may feel more sensitive depending on the level of tightness. Treatments are always adjusted to your comfort level. After treatment, mild redness is common, and some patients may experience slight soreness similar to a workout. Occasionally, light bruising may occur in more restricted areas.
Our Approach
At Abundant Life Chiropractic, IASTM is often combined with other treatments such as spinal adjustments, cupping, and corrective exercises to address the root cause of dysfunction. The goal is to improve tissue mobility, restore proper movement, and help you return to your normal activities with less pain and restriction.
